Arsenal ‘most active’ in race to sign Wilfried Gnonto

Arsenal are one of the ‘most active’ clubs in the race to sign Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Gunners bolstered their attack with Leandro Trossard in the January transfer window, and the Belgian has been a revelation with six goal contributions so far.

Irrespective of how the season ends, the club are likely to invest into their squad further and a young winger could be one of the top priorities for the summer.

It is now reported that the Gunners are ‘most active’ in the pursuit of Gnonto, but they are not alone with interest from Chelsea as well as Manchester City.

The trio believe Gnonto has the quality to become a genuine goal scorer in future, but Leeds won’t let him go on the cheap. They value him between €35-40 million.

Gnonto would be a good acquisition for Arsenal

The 19-year-old has had a wonderful debut season with Leeds, registering four goals and three assists from 20 games. His work rate has been hugely impressive.

Gnonto also likes to track back when out of possession. He has won 4.6 duels and 1.3 tackles per game. Hence, he has the potential to develop into an elite winger.

The Italian has largely played on the left wing for Leeds since his summer arrival, but he is also capable of playing on the right wing or in the second striker role.

There are no surprises that the top clubs are after him. Arsenal are in the mix, but the big question is whether they can outbid Chelsea and City to his services.

The Gunners will have plenty of funds to spend with their return to the Champions League, but they are competing with clubs that have unlimited budget.

Chelsea in particular have been spending for fun under their new ownership. Arsenal could make a summer move for Gnonto but are unlikely to pay over the odds.
