Arsenal are interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram on a free transfer, according to Spanish publication AS (page 12).
The France international was heavily linked with a move away from Monchengladbach last month but he eventually made the decision to stay.
Thuram is set to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in June and it is now reported that there are many clubs looking to land his services.
Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are mentioned as candidates to sign him but Thuram wants to be playing Champions League football.
Hence, Arsenal have a genuine advantage over their European rivals in the transfer race.
Thuram would be a terrific signing on a free transfer
Thuram has had an outstanding campaign with Monchengladbach. The 25-year-old has bagged 13 goals and four assists from just 19 appearances in all competitions.
The Frenchman has played as the main striker this campaign but he is also versatile. Thuram has managed 50 per cent of his career appearances from the left wing.
On a free transfer, he would prove a shrewd signing for the Gunners this summer. Thuram won’t be a regular starter but definitely provides more quality off the bench.
His strong physique, dribbling skills and ability to hold-up play would suit the Premier League. It seems a no-brainer signing for Arsenal if Thuram accepts a back-up role.
Meanwhile, manager Mikel Arteta has a big decision to make next season with the emergence of Folarin Balogun. He has been brilliant for Reims on loan this campaign.
The youngster has bagged 15 goals from just 21 outings. If Arteta decides to keep him, it could directly have an impact on the club’s plans to bring in another striker.
